Commission II of the DPR Regrets Suspected Involvement of Ombudsman Chairman in Nickel Corruption
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, regrets the designation of suspect status for Hery Susanto, the Chairman of the Ombudsman RI for the 2026-2031 period, by the Attorney General’s Office due to alleged involvement in corruption in nickel mining governance from 2013 to 2025.
“We are very shocked. We are stunned and certainly regret this news,” said Rifqinizamy in Jakarta on Thursday.
He explained that, as a working partner of the Ombudsman, Commission II of the DPR RI had already held informal discussions and was surprised by the designation of suspect status for Hery Susanto.
However, his side respects the ongoing legal process.
For that reason, he asked the eight Ombudsman RI members to immediately conduct internal consolidation and ensure that all duties, authorities, and functions of the Ombudsman RI run well throughout Indonesia.
The case, he said, must serve as a correction for all parties.
He also wants the Ombudsman RI institution to become even better in the future.
“Let us give time for the legal process to run by prioritising the presumption of innocence principle, and Commission II of the DPR RI certainly regrets that this could happen,” he said.
Previously, the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) designated Hery Susanto, the Chairman of the Ombudsman RI for the 2026-2031 period, as a suspect in the alleged criminal corruption case in nickel mining business governance activities from 2013 to 2025.
“The designation of suspect status was carried out after the investigation team obtained sufficient evidence through a series of investigation actions, searches, and others,” he said.
