Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives Dede Yusuf has called on East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud to reconsider the budget for an official vehicle that has reached 8.5 billion rupiah. Dede Yusuf stated that the East Kalimantan provincial government must consider the current economic conditions of the public.

“Admittedly, the Home Affairs Ministerial Regulation does not specify a price, it specifies the engine capacity in cubic centimetres. But fundamentally, this is how it works. The selection is based on need, that is correct. There are regions such as Papua, which are mountainous areas requiring tactical vehicles, in other words combat vehicles. That means special engines and so on are required,” said Dede on Friday (27 February 2026).

Dede Yusuf noted that the Home Affairs Ministerial Regulation indeed does not specify the price nominally. Nevertheless, he reminded regional heads to consider the current situation of the public.

“Therefore, in the Ministerial Regulation, it is specified in the form of engine capacity type. Well, however, of course, as a regional head, we must also see what the economic conditions of a region are, and also the condition of the community so as not to hurt the feelings of the public,” he said.

He stated that there are still many options for vehicles with 3,000 cubic centimetre engine capacity. This Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party called on the East Kalimantan Governor to reconsider the budget for the official vehicle.

“Certainly there are still many options and these options should be consulted first, especially with the provincial legislature or with the Home Affairs Ministry because 3,000 cubic centimetre types are quite numerous. Those that are suitable for the needs of official duties and work,” said Dede.

“So I suggest to the Governor of East Kalimantan to reconsider the purchase of the official vehicle which may be excessive from a price perspective,” he added.

Previously, East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud commented on the 8.5 billion rupiah budget for procuring an official vehicle. He stated that the procurement was carried out in accordance with regulations and to maintain the prestige of East Kalimantan.

The issue of the 8.5 billion rupiah budget was initially explained by East Kalimantan’s Regional Secretary, Sri Wahyuni. According to Antara news agency on Tuesday (24 February), Sri stated that the procurement plan had undergone careful consideration based on official requirements and the effectiveness of the regional head’s work.

She stated that the operational vehicle is intended to reach areas of East Kalimantan that have extreme geographical characteristics. She said the governor’s official vehicle must be able to navigate heavy terrain in East Kalimantan.

“The Governor is committed to directly monitoring every problem in remote areas. For example, during a visit to Bongan, he wanted to see for himself the condition of the road that residents complained about. To reach critical points with terrain as difficult as that, a reliable and representative vehicle is needed,” said Sri Wahyuni.
