The DPR Commission II has officially formed a working committee (Panja) to commence the discussion of the Election Bill (RUU Pemilu).

The meeting to establish the working committee was held behind closed doors prior to a Commission II session with the Indonesian Ombudsman regarding findings from an inspection of the Class IIA Cibinong Prison in Bogor, West Java.

“I need to convey that we held an internal meeting in the DPR RI Commission II today, which has formally approved the Working Committee for the Drafting of the Election Bill,” stated the Chairman of Commission II DPR, Rifqinizami Karsayuda, at the parliamentary complex on Tuesday (29/9).

Ritqi explained that his party will hold further meetings starting next week to establish a timeline or schedule for the bill’s discussion before it is officially proposed as an initiative in a plenary session.

“Next Monday, we will arrange the schedule and will communicate it openly to the public through the media,” said Rifqi.

To date, several points within the Election Bill have remained under scrutiny, particularly those concerning Constitutional Court rulings. These include the parliamentary threshold, the presidential threshold, and the separation of legislative and presidential elections.

On the other hand, the DPR is also scheduled to receive a joint audience from non-parliamentary parties organised under the People’s Voice Sovereignty Movement (GKSR) to discuss the Election Bill. These groups have previously stated that they have prepared a 200-page academic paper for the Bill to serve as input during the DPR’s deliberations.

The GKSR consists of eight non-parliamentary parties, namely the Hanura Party, Perindo Party, PPP, Labour Party, Partai Ummat, PBB, PKN, and Partai Berkarya.
