Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives Dave Laksono has requested that the government review the effectiveness of assigning TNI troops to the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, following an Israeli missile attack that killed an Indonesian soldier.

Dave assessed that the security situation in Lebanon, which continues to be marked by armed conflicts, needs to be evaluated, particularly regarding the deployment and role of the TNI in the peacekeeping mission in that area.

“This is also an opportunity to make corrections or to see whether the presence of our soldiers is truly functioning or not,” said Dave when met at the House of Representatives building on Monday (30/3/2026).

According to Dave, if the conditions on the ground do not allow for the peacekeeping mission to proceed, the government needs to consider evaluation steps, including the possibility of withdrawing troops.

Nevertheless, Dave emphasised that the final decision remains with the government.

Because the government has complete data and information regarding the situation on the ground.

“We leave that to the government, which knows exactly what the conditions are like. If the government conveys a decision, that has already gone through in-depth consideration,” he said.

He assessed that an investigation is important to ensure that the responsible party is held accountable while also providing justice for the victim’s family.

“There must be an in-depth investigation because this concerns justice for the soldier’s family. Where did this attack come from, who attacked, what was the target point until our casualties occurred,” Dave stressed.

In addition, the investigation results could serve as material for evaluation to improve standard operating procedures (SOP) in future assignments.

It was previously reported that a soldier from the Task Unit (Satgas) of the TNI Garuda Contingent (Konga) in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission was reported to have fallen due to an Israeli attack in Lebanon.

“There is a casualty from a TNI soldier, namely 1 person deceased, 1 in serious condition, and 2 with minor injuries,” said Rico to Kompas.com on Monday.

He confirmed that the injured victims have received medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the clarification process regarding the incident is still being carried out by UNIFIL.

“And the clarification process is still being conducted by UNIFIL,” he stated.
