Deputy Chairman of Parliament’s Commission I Dave Laksono has endorsed the Indonesian Army’s reduction of its security alert status from level 1 to level 3, describing the adjustment as appropriate and proportional.

“Commission I of Parliament views the adjustment of alert status by the TNI from level 1 to level 3 as a correct and proportional step,” Dave told journalists on Friday (13 March 2026).

“Alert readiness must indeed be adjusted to match the dynamics of threats and actual operational needs on the ground. Alert level 3 is sufficient to ensure public security whilst maintaining efficient use of TNI resources,” he added.

Dave stressed that military preparedness extends beyond alert level designations. Rather, he argued, it should be assessed through the TNI’s capacity to respond swiftly and proportionally to any potential threats.

“Commission I of Parliament supports the TNI’s approach of maintaining vigilance without excess, allowing troops to focus on security operations most relevant to current conditions,” he stated.

Dave expressed confidence that the status adjustment reflects the TNI’s mature and responsible readiness in safeguarding national security.

“With measured strategy, the TNI remains capable of fulfilling its role as the nation’s frontline defence. This policy demonstrates that the TNI is not only alert to threats, but also instils confidence that national security can be adequately maintained and the public can conduct their activities with a sense of safety,” he concluded.

Earlier, Indonesian Army Information Chief Brigadier General Donny Pramono announced that the TNI AD’s alert status had been lowered to level 3 following the preceding level 1 alert. The level 3 alert was implemented to strengthen troop readiness in securing the region during the Eid holiday period.

“We are implementing level 3 alert because we will also be conducting activities for Eid al-Fitr,” Donny said when meeting with media representatives at TNI AD headquarters on Thursday.

According to Donny’s explanation, both level 1 and level 3 alerts are not intended to respond to conflict situations or waves of warfare in any region. He described level 1 alert as serving only to inspect the completeness of major weapons systems and the readiness of all military personnel.

A troop review ceremony held at Monas Crossroads in Central Jakarta on Saturday (7 March) was cited as representing level 1 alert operations. After the level 1 alert period concluded, Donny said, the TNI AD would then deploy personnel to provide security during the Eid holiday.
