A member of Commission I of the House of Representatives, Tubagus Hasanuddin, has requested that the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) evaluate the security systems and operational procedures for all personnel of the Garuda Contingent in conflict areas. This request is in response to the death of one TNI soldier and injuries to three others in Lebanon.

He stated that the evaluation must include a review of the positions of the TNI contingent’s monitoring posts, which are serving as United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping troops. The TNI also needs to enhance physical protection at military bases or headquarters.

“And tightening of standard operating procedures during armed contacts in the duty area,” said Tubagus on Monday, 30 March 2026.

This politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle assessed that the safety of soldiers should be the government’s top priority. Therefore, he believes mitigation steps need to be reviewed again to minimise risks in the field.

“Especially amid increasingly volatile security conditions, without reducing Indonesia’s commitment to carrying out world peacekeeping missions,” he said.

In addition, Tubagus urged the Indonesian government to respond to the attack on the UNIFIL headquarters, where TNI soldiers are also stationed at the military base in Lebanon. The government must also request a comprehensive, transparent, and independent investigation.

“The focus of the investigation must ensure whether the attack was an unintended impact of conflict escalation or a violation of international law,” said Tubagus.

He also asked the Indonesian government to immediately submit an official demand to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to thoroughly investigate the incident. The government, he said, also needs to convey a firm stance that attacks on UN personnel constitute war crimes that must be followed up.

Tubagus also advised the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to apply diplomatic pressure to ensure the investigation process into this incident is thorough. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must closely monitor every stage of the investigation by UNIFIL, from evidence collection in the field, data analysis, to verification of the incident’s chronology,” he stated.

A TNI soldier named Chief Soldier Farizal Rhomadhon was killed in an attack on the UNIFIL headquarters in southern Lebanon on Sunday, 29 March 2026. Farizal was a member of Infantry Battalion 113/Jaya Sakti. The victim was part of the Mechanised Battalion Task Force in the Garuda XXIII-S Contingent on the UNIFIL mission.

Three other TNI soldiers were injured in the incident. One, Corporal Rico Pramudia, sustained serious injuries. He was evacuated by helicopter to Saint George Hospital in Beirut. The two other TNI soldiers sustained minor injuries. They are Corporal Bayu Prakoso and Corporal Arif Kurniawan. Both have received treatment at UNIFIL Level I Hospital.

Tubagus Hasanuddin expressed deep condolences over the incident. He asked the government to ensure that the rights of the soldiers who became victims are fulfilled.
