Commission I Appreciates KDM's Swift Response in Saving Bandung Zoo
The swift action taken by Kang Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) in responding to issues at Bandung Zoo has received appreciation from the West Java Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD). Pradi Supriatna, a member of Commission I of the West Java DPRD, which oversees government affairs, views this effort as a demonstration of concern for humanitarian aspects and the sustainability of the animals amid the crisis.
According to Pradi, although the management authority lies with the Bandung City Government and the Forestry Ministry, KDM’s steps remain relevant and appropriate. Especially since field conditions indicate pressing issues, both regarding employee welfare and animal health.
“By authority, it is indeed with the Bandung City Government and the forestry ministry. However, in an emergency situation like this, the swift action taken by KDM deserves appreciation,” said Pradi on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
He highlighted the decision to help pay the employees’ salaries that had been overdue for two months as a form of support for the workers directly affected. Additionally, providing paramedic personnel to handle the animals is considered an important step to ensure the animals’ conditions remain maintained amid the internal management conflicts.
As is known, the problems at Bandung Zoo have become increasingly complex with the dualism in the foundation’s management, which has triggered uncertainty in operations. This condition impacts daily operations, including employee welfare and animal care.
Pradi emphasised that in such conditions, humanitarian aspects and animal protection must be the top priority. Therefore, emergency intervention steps are deemed reasonable as long as they aim to maintain stability and prevent broader impacts.
“The main thing is to ensure employees still receive their rights and the animals are not neglected. That should be the joint focus,” he said.
Commission I of the West Java DPRD, continued Pradi, will continue to monitor the developments in handling this issue, including encouraging cross-party coordination so that the resulting solutions are sustainable.
With this swift action, it is hoped that the condition of Bandung Zoo can quickly recover, both in terms of management and the welfare of all involved parties, so that its conservation and educational functions continue to operate optimally.
