Comments on Shelby's chess

I am one of the loyal readers of The Jakarta Post; especially the Chess Section which interests me and has really broadened my perspective in chess games with my colleagues.

But in the Post on Sept. 27, Shelby stated: "White gets a Bishop". This is not true and I think this is a blunder!

Please consider: 1.e5 Bxe5. 2.Rb4 Qd7. This will neutralize and strengthen Black's position. And if forcing 3. Rxg6, Qxg6, etc. this means Black gains a pawn and wins in both quality and quantity.

My intention isn't to ridicule Shelby but to stimulate the Chess Section to become more interesting and more educative than just a leisure corner. All other chess lovers must not to be misled by Shelby's solution.
