Commemorating World Environment Day, BRI Promotes Waste Management Culture Awareness

Jakarta (ANTARA) – In commemoration of World Environment Day on 5 June, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen its commitment to fostering a sustainable waste management culture through its ‘Green Action BRI Peduli’ programme. This initiative is part of the Company’s efforts to raise awareness regarding environmental preservation while encouraging active community participation in reducing plastic waste through impactful and sustainable actions.

Through the Green Action BRI Peduli event held at the BRI Head Office in Jakarta on Friday (5/6), BRI invited its employees, known as ‘Insan BRILiaN’, to participate in a plastic waste reduction campaign using Reverse Vending Machines (RVM). These machines serve as both an educational tool and a collection point for recyclable plastic bottles.

Participants brought a minimum of five clean and recyclable plastic bottles to be deposited into the BRI Peduli RVM. Each bottle deposited was converted into an incentive of Rp2,000 as a form of appreciation for their participation in the waste management initiative.

In addition to the RVM activation, the event featured environmental education booths, interactive areas, and a photobooth themed ‘Yok Kita GAS – Gerakan Kelola Sampah’ (Let’s GAS – Waste Management Movement). Participants also had the opportunity to play a Wheel of Fortune game to win various prizes and eco-friendly souvenirs, such as products made from recycled materials and mini plant pots.

BRI Corporate Secretary, Dhanny, stated that the strengthening of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principle implementation is being carried out sustainably through various programmes designed to encourage behavioural changes within the workplace. This is part of the Company’s commitment to reinforcing the sustainability agenda across all organisational aspects.

“BRI continues to develop various sustainability initiatives that focus not only on programmes but also on strengthening the active participation of Insan BRILiaN in protecting the environment, including through waste management activities via Green Action BRI Peduli. Through a more participatory approach, we want to ensure that environmental awareness is not merely discourse but is reflected in daily behaviour, including the reduction of plastic waste. Moving forward, BRI will continue to expand the implementation of ESG to provide a broader and more sustainable impact,” said Dhanny.
