Commemorating World Environment Day 2026, Pertamina Plants Trees and Strengthens Waste Management Innovation

In commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, PT Pertamina (Persero) has commenced a series of environmental programme activations, including the planting of 1,000 tree seedlings and the strengthening of community-based waste management innovations at the TPS3R facility in Guwosari Village, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Friday (5/6/2026).

The kick-off event was accompanied by simultaneous tree planting across the Pertamina Group’s operational areas, including the vicinity of the Plaju Refinery, Elnusa, and other operational units.

PT Pertamina (Persero) Corporate Secretary, Arya Dwi Paramantea, who led the World Environment Day commemoration in Yogyakarta, stated that this step is part of Pertamina’s ongoing commitment to supporting climate change mitigation efforts while addressing waste management challenges, which remain a major environmental issue in Indonesia. This initiative aligns with the theme of World Environment Day: ‘Time to Act for Climate’.

In addition to tree planting, Pertamina also provided assistance for the Go-Sari Edupark Programme valued at IDR 150 million. This funding is intended to support the development of the Go-Sari waste collection application, biochar innovation, poultry farming, and the ‘Rewulu Reborn’ programme, which processes tanker truck seal waste into economically valuable products.

Arya noted that the selection of TPS3R Guwosari as the kick-off location was intentional. The site is under the guidance of the Rewulu Fuel Terminal, an operational area of Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Central Java, and serves as a real-world example of how collaboration between corporations, communities, and academics can provide innovative solutions to waste problems.

“World Environment Day serves as a momentum for Pertamina to continue strengthening concrete actions in environmental preservation. We chose TPS3R Guwosari as the starting point because this facility demonstrates integrated waste management that provides tangible economic and social benefits to the community,” said Arya.

The Village Head of Guwosari, Masduki, explained that the integrated waste management initiative in his area has helped resolve waste issues for 1,500 households and provides income for more than 27 residents, including the elderly, who work in various roles such as waste collection, sorting, pressing, composting, and poultry maintenance.
