Commemorating Kartini Day, Passengers at Tugu Station Invited to Join Flower Arranging Class

YOGYAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Female travellers at Tugu Station, Yogyakarta, were invited to join a quick flower-arranging class for bouquets during the Kartini Day commemoration on Tuesday (21/4/2026). In addition, female workers from KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta welcomed passengers dressed in kebaya and batik while distributing flowers. They then invited female passengers to arrange flowers while waiting for their trains. Eva did not hesitate to join the short class. “It turns out that flower arranging is not as simple as it seems. It requires seriousness to make it look good,” said Eva on Tuesday (21/4/2026). The woman, who works as a lecturer at the State University of Surabaya (Unesa), admitted that her experience during this Kartini Day moment was not just passing by, but also related to fulfilling women’s rights in the public sector. Feni stated that Yogyakarta Station, as the busiest and largest in Daop 6 Yogyakarta, is operated and served by a number of female employees. This includes operational staff such as station heads, PAP, train technicians, special railway police security officers, to service staff like sub-customer care heads, boarding officers, customer service, and ticket counter staff, all filled by female officers. “KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta provides equal career opportunities for women to participate in serving and advancing the railway sector. This year’s Kartini Day celebration with all staff at Yogyakarta Station filled by the railway’s female heroes shows that women are also credible, competent, capable, and given equal opportunities at KAI.” Feni added that in Daop 6 Yogyakarta itself, there are three female station heads, demonstrating that women are also capable as leaders in operational aspects. In Daop 6 Yogyakarta, there are a total of 1,964 employees, of which five percent or 96 are female employees. Regarding facilities, all passenger service stations in Daop 6 Yogyakarta are equipped with lactation rooms or breastfeeding rooms. In addition, the stainless steel toilet facilities on trains are equipped with baby tables to make it easier for mothers to change their babies’ nappies. “We hope this Kartini Day commemoration activity can provide memorable and special travel experiences. KAI will continue to improve services that prioritise safety, security, and customer comfort until they arrive at their destination station,” Feni concluded.
