Comedy star jumps to death from 10th-floor

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

A television comedy star, Nela Zariana, 25, allegedly killed herself on Sunday morning by jumping from the 10th floor of her apartment, Wisma Gading Permai in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

Nela was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We have not yet completed the investigation, but at this point it appears to have been suicide," said Kelapa Gading police detectives chief, First Insp. Marsdianto.

Marsdianto said police were still questioning four witnesses in connection to the incident, including Nela's boyfriend Joy Chang, alias Acang, who lived with Nela in the apartment.

Citing the statements made by the witnesses, Marsdianto said that Nela had been quarreling with Acang prior to the incident.

"She went out to a karaoke bar in Tambora, West Jakarta Saturday around midnight and returned home at 8 a.m. on Sunday. She woke her boyfriend and they began to quarrel," he related, according to the statements from witnesses.

Nela, who had a supporting role in the comedy reality show Spontan, is survived by her 18-month-old toddler.

If it was suicide, it would be the first recorded thus far in the capital this year.

Last month, a Japanese citizen, Marie Fujii, 22, also killed herself by jumping from the 11th floor of the Bukit Golf Apartment building in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta.

Although she survived in the initial fall, she eventually died at Pondok Indah Hospital.

Earlier in December, Mamay Riskomar, 54, killed himself by jumping from the fifth floor of the Fatmawati Hospital, Cilandak, South Jakarta.
