Comedian to contest Indramayu election

INDRAMAYU, West Java: The Indramayu General Elections Commission (KPUD) named on Tuesday the three pairs of regent and vice regent candidates eligible to run in the Sept. 23 election.

One of the six regent hopefuls is comedian Nurul Qomar, who was nominated by the National Awakening Party (PKB).

Qomar earlier approached the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) about receiving its nomination in the election, but the party nominated a different candidate.

The announcement on Tuesday drew protests from supporters of three pairs of would-be candidates who were deemed ineligible to contest the election.
