Comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono Attends Bareskrim Interrogation Regarding Toraja Case

Jakarta — Comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono responded to a summons from the Cyber Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) to undergo further questioning as a witness in an investigation concerning stand-up comedy material allegedly insulting Toraja customary practices, on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Pandji stated that his appearance was intended to continue the investigation process related to developments in the customary law hearing he underwent in Toraja, South Sulawesi, approximately two weeks prior.

“I am here to answer questions related to that customary hearing,” Pandji said when met at Bareskrim headquarters in Jakarta on Monday.

According to Pandji, under the new criminal law provisions, restorative justice approaches are prioritised in resolving certain cases. He therefore hopes that the customary law hearing already conducted will also form part of the resolution process.

“The customary hearing should be considered valid and recognised, with priority given to it. This is what I and my legal counsel hope for,” Pandji stated.

However, Pandji acknowledged he did not bring documents or evidence relating to the customary hearing when responding to the investigator’s summons. When asked whether he brought files of evidence from the customary hearing, Pandji said the documents likely remain mostly with the indigenous community members involved in the process.

“I don’t have them. Those would probably be better directed to questions with the indigenous community friends,” he said.

The interrogation is part of an ongoing investigation into a report regarding Pandji’s comedy material, which was deemed offensive to Toraja customary practices. Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, director of the Cyber Crime Directorate at Bareskrim Polri, previously stated that investigators had questioned several witnesses and experts to examine the matter further.
