Colombia drops dumping charges

JAKARTA: The Colombian government has terminated its investigation on dumping allegations against two Indonesian export products, polyester textured yarn and polyester staple fiber, according to director general for industrial and international trade cooperation Hatanto Reksodipoetro.

Hatanto said on Thursday that the decision was made after the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Trade found no evidence and injury to prove the dumping charges.

Colombia is strategically located because it is a gateway for exports to Mercosur countries (Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil).

Hatanto said that with the decision, the above export products could continue to enter the Colombian market until 2006, with total expected export revenue of around US$134.4 million.

However, he reminded Indonesian exporters to pay attention to the pricing policy in their export destinations so they would not cause injury to local products in the future. -- JP
