Collapsed Road in Pulo Gadung Left Unrepaired for Five Months

A collapsed road on the banks of the Kali Pulo Gadung in East Jakarta is continuing to widen. According to residents, the road collapse first occurred in April 2026.

The head of RT 11 RW 03 Pulo Gadung, Warjono, explained that the collapsed road is getting wider because it has not been repaired. “Initially the collapse was only small, but every day it keeps shifting and getting wider,” he said in Jakarta on Monday (6/7).

Residents are complaining and are worried that the collapsed road in Pulo Gadung could cause a traffic accident if it is not addressed immediately. According to Warjono, the road collapse in Pulo Gadung was initially minor. Now, it has expanded lengthways to 100 metres.

To anticipate accidents, residents and local administrators have closed the road access to four-wheeled vehicles. Motorcycles can still pass through the road, but alternately, as the remaining road width is only about one metre. “Four-wheeled vehicles, MSME traders, they cannot pass through here, they have to turn around,” Warjono stated.

Warjono suspects the damage and collapse were caused by dredging of the Kali Pulo Gadung. This made the soil structure on the riverbank unstable and it gradually gave way, dragging the road surface down. Other facilities have also been affected by the river dredging. Warjono said several water channels are now cracked, the road surface continues to subside, and a waste disposal site has also been damaged.
