Collapsed Road Cuts Off Car Access to Klotok Beach in Klungkung

A collapsed road has cut off four-wheeled vehicle access to Klotok Beach in Tojan Village, Klungkung District, Klungkung, Bali. Local residents also assess that the road condition, which leaves only a small gap for motorcycles, has the potential to cause danger.

The Klotok Beach road serves as the main access for residents heading to the beach and for rubbish trucks from the Gelgel Village TPS3R waste management site. Its current condition is seriously damaged. The small road connecting the two villages suffered damage precisely at an irrigation channel, where the iron framework appeared unable to withstand the load of passing vehicles.

The collapsed road has been fitted with a danger warning sign by the Klungkung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPRPKP). A Gelgel Village resident, Wayan Rindiasih, who traverses the road daily for work, said the damage occurred relatively recently. However, if left unchecked, the damage could spread and become much larger. It could also pose a danger to residents crossing at night.

‘The conditions are also dark at night. So we hope the government will carry out repairs immediately,’ Rindiasih explained on Sunday (12/6/2026). She is not yet aware of any residents who have had accidents on the damaged road, but she has heard that some people nearly came to grief because they did not know about the hole. ‘I heard that someone already fell there,’ she said.

As a result of the damage, residents using four-wheeled vehicles are forced to take alternative routes. According to Rindiasih, this alternative route is troublesome because it is much further, especially for the rubbish trucks that must pass through the area every day.
