Collapsed bridges disrupt Java traffic
PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Floods have knocked out two bridges
in Brebes and Cilacap, disrupting traffic along both the northern
and southern highways connecting the province with West Java.
Workers are laboring around the clock to fix the bridges in
the run-up to the Idul Fitri holidays on March 3 and March 4.
Tens of thousands of vehicles are expected to follow those
routes in the two weeks before and after the holidays.
Due to the collapse of the Brebes bridge, the road connecting
Tegal and Cirebon is closed to traffic bound for West Java.
Motorists are asked to take another road when traveling through
that area.
The collapse of the Cilacap bridge has totally cut off traffic
between Sidareja and Kawunganten and motorists are asked to take
an alternative route. (wah)
