Collaboration Launches People's Internet with Coverage Across 82+ Cities and Regencies
PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (“SURGE”) through its subsidiary PT Telemedia Komunikasi Pratama (“Telemedia”) has officially launched IRA – People’s Internet across Regional-1 areas covering Java, Maluku, and Papua. The initiative is part of SURGE’s strategy to accelerate national digital access equality through efficient, scalable, and affordable telecommunications infrastructure, aligning with the company’s vision to support Indonesia’s digital transformation and narrow the fixed broadband access gap.
Amid rising digital connectivity demands, Indonesia still faces challenges such as relatively high fixed broadband costs compared to other ASEAN nations, alongside uneven service quality and speed. With over 200 million residents in Java, Maluku, and Papua, there is significant growth potential for affordable, high-quality fixed broadband services, making it a key focus for IRA – People’s Internet.
Through IRA, SURGE and Telemedia offer high-speed fixed broadband up to 100 Mbps at an affordable price of Rp100,000, expanding public access to education, digital economy services, public utilities, entertainment, and new opportunities in the digital age.
“IRA – People’s Internet is a tangible commitment to delivering quality fixed broadband for all Indonesians. We believe internet access is no longer a luxury but a basic necessity that must be available to everyone. By launching IRA in Java, Maluku, and Papua, we aim to bridge the digital divide and unlock more opportunities for people to participate in the digital economy,” said Shannedy Ong, President Director of PT Telemedia Komunikasi Pratama, on Tuesday (26/5).
As part of Regional-1 implementation, IRA’s infrastructure currently comprises over 550 active sites (as of 26 May 2026) and 3,189 installed radio units operating across more than 82 cities and regencies in Java, Maluku, and Papua. This infrastructure forms a crucial foundation for expanding high-speed fixed broadband access to previously underserved areas.
“The successful launch of IRA – People’s Internet is the result of strong collaboration across our ecosystem of partners. Support from technology vendors, local partners, funding institutions, and stakeholders has enabled us to accelerate infrastructure development and deliver fixed broadband services to more Indonesians,” he added.
Yune Marketatmo, President Director of Surge (WIFI), stated that IRA – People’s Internet is not merely a service but a movement to provide affordable, stable, and relevant digital access for everyday needs.
“We believe good digital access should not be limited to a small segment of society. When digital access is evenly distributed, more people can unlock new opportunities. We understand that achieving nationwide digital equality requires collective effort,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shareholder WIFI, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, believes IRA – People’s Internet will boost Indonesia’s economic growth. “I believe we can achieve nearly 7% growth with affordable internet,” he concluded.
At the same event, Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Nezar Patria noted that wider internet access would naturally increase Indonesia’s digital economy. “Geopolitically, digital technology is power; weak infrastructure undermines competitiveness. Therefore, strengthening infrastructure and ensuring inclusive internet access is essential,” he added.
