Collaboration between Wayang and Pokemon could deliver dual benefits

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, stated that a collaboration with The Pokemon Company to unite Wayang with Pokemon could deliver a dual effect, driving both cultural preservation and economic activity.

“It is not just about preserving culture, but economically, it could lead to more orders,” she said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

“The impact will certainly be felt in the crafts sector; as more people become acquainted with Wayang, it will also attract more tourists to the country,” she added.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon stated that the government is encouraging the development of the creative economy industry and culture-based economic activities. The collaboration to blend Wayng with Pokemon aligns with these efforts.

Takato Utsunomiya, Chief Operating Officer of The Pokemon Company, expressed the company’s desire to present a new experience by bringing Pokemon together with Wayang.

“Through our interactions with the Indonesian people, I feel that Japanese culture is not merely known here, but is understood and enjoyed deeply. Therefore, we also wish to learn from Indonesia, including from traditional arts such as Wayang,” he said.

“We highly respect and wish to study this cultural richness while creating a unique Pokemon experience together with all of you,” he added.
