Collaboration Between Local Government and Citizens Key to Creating a Beautiful Environment
Steps to create a beautiful environment cannot be achieved through administrative measures alone. A pristine environment and effective waste management are created through harmonious collaboration between local governments and their citizens.
Behind every clean, green, and well-ordered corner of a city lies a success story of collective partnership, where the government and the community walk side-by-side as equal partners. The primary key to this collaboration begins with open and transparent communication between local governments and local communities.
This solid synergy can give rise to a new culture where maintaining environmental cleanliness has transformed into a community lifestyle. The mutual trust built between local governments and citizens creates a sustainable ecosystem of ‘gotong royong’ (mutual cooperation).
Building on this, the 2026 Batch II Regional Sulawesi Outstanding Local Government Awards were held to recognise regions deemed capable of managing waste and maintaining beautiful environments. These regions were included in the awards under the Waste Management and Beautiful Environment category.
This category assesses the commitment and performance of local governments in realising integrated waste management and creating clean, healthy, and sustainable environments. The assessment covers waste management, environmental quality, and the effectiveness of programmes that have a real impact on the community. Regional innovation serves as an added value in presenting creative, collaborative, and sustainable environmental solutions.
The 2026 Batch II Regional Sulawesi Outstanding Local Government Awards continue a series of appreciations previously held in several regions of Indonesia. Following the Sumatra Region in Batam, the Java and Bali Region in the Island of the Gods, and the Kalimantan Region in Balikpapan, the series continued to the Sulawesi Region.
Several local governments in Sulawesi received spotlight for the programmes and innovations they have implemented, including environmental management, increasing access to health and education services, and providing decent housing for the community.
The 2026 Batch II Regional Sulawesi Outstanding Local Government Awards took place on Friday, 10 September 2026, at 19:00 WITA. The event was broadcast via live stream on detikcom and detikSulsel.
