Col. Adang appointed city detective chief
JAKARTA (JP): City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Dibyo Widodo
installed Col. Adang Rismanto yesterday as head of the Jakarta
Crime Investigation Directorate, replacing Col. Nurfaizi.
Nurfaizi is being promoted to National Police spokesman with
the rank of brigadier general.
In his speech, Dibyo ordered the newly installed CID head to
immediately solve a number of crimes which are still pending.
Several questions needing answers include finding the main
suspect in the killing of Herbin Hutagalung's family and the
suspects and motive behind the killing of six-year-old Levina
Dwisy. A number of banking frauds recorded recently in the city
also need serious attention from this directorate, Dibyo said.
Adang Rismanto, who has just left his latest position as chief
of the Semarang police in Central Java, is already familiar in
police circles in the city as he has spent most of his career
here.
Before he was posted to Semarang, he was the South Jakarta
police chief. His name became well-known in the national media
following the investigation of the mysterious death of a young
businessman at the resident of actress Ria Irawan in South
Jakarta. The crime has still not been solved.
Adang, 49, was also assigned to the Kebayoran Baru police
precinct.
When asked to comment on his chief's orders, Adang simply
said: "I'll continue and, if necessary, improve our investigation
to meet the command."
Nurfaizi, 49, is widely known as a low profile detective.
Under his supervision, the city police crime investigation
directorate solved a large number of serious crimes based on
scientific investigation.
The cases include finding persons shooting at a five-star
hotel and a bank headquarters in Central Jakarta and the killing
of members of Rohadi's family.
Nurfaizi holds a number of certificates showing his
participation in a number of studies and seminars on police-
related issues in Germany, the United States and several Asian
countries.
Rumors in police circles state that Brig. Gen. Nurfaizi will
only be the National Police spokesman for a few months.
"The position was only a stepping stone so he could be
promoted to general. From there he will be assigned to another
position more suitable to his talents," said a senior officer.
