Coffee shop at Poins Square incurs Rp17 million in losses following fire

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Sudin Gulkarmat) stated that the estimated losses for the coffee shop at Poins Square, Lebak Bulus, reached approximately Rp17 million following the fire on Monday (25/5).

‘The fire damage is estimated at Rp17,343,600,’ said South Jakarta Sudin Gulkarmat Head Asril Rizal when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He noted that the fire occurred on Monday (25/3) at 7.19pm WIB when a man identified as A was replacing a 12kg gas cylinder, but the regulator was faulty.

As he attempted to fix it, gas suddenly ignited from another ignition point, causing an explosion.

‘The coffee shop staff tried to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher (APAR), while the building security contacted the fire department,’ Asril explained.

After receiving the report, South Jakarta Sudin Gulkarmat immediately dispatched 14 units and 54 personnel to put out the flames.

‘The fire was finally extinguished at 7.57pm WIB,’ Asril said.

The cause of the six-square-metre fire was a gas leak, with one person identified as E (36) suffering burns from the incident.
