Coda and EKRAF Partner to Open Access for Indonesian Game Developers
Global digital content platform Coda has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy (EKRAF) to accelerate the growth of the domestic gaming ecosystem. The partnership aims to equip Indonesian game developers with comprehensive knowledge, commercial tools, and business capabilities to scale their operations, expand their global audience reach, and enhance their international competitiveness. This collaboration reinforces a shared commitment to positioning Indonesia as a leading hub for game development and digital creativity.
The MoU builds on previous collaborations between Coda and EKRAF. With full support from the ministry, past initiatives have successfully boosted the capacity of over 70 local developers through a Global Game Jam Pre-Workshop in Jakarta. Furthermore, the international market reach for locally made games continues to be expanded through Codashop, Coda’s marketplace for in-game and digital content purchases. Beyond supporting developers, Coda and EKRAF will continue to promote digital literacy and safer online gaming spaces, including through the Guard Your Game campaign, which educates players on recognising and avoiding various online fraud schemes.
This synergy aligns with the Indonesian Government’s broader vision to develop a commercially robust, resilient, and internationally competitive gaming industry, while also serving as a global stage for Indonesian talent. CEO of Coda, Shane Happach, stated that Indonesia is home to a dynamic and rapidly growing developer community. He noted that while creative talent is abundant, building a successful gaming business requires access to the right infrastructure, networks, and commercial opportunities. Happach expressed hope that the partnership with EKRAF would help more Indonesian studios build sustainable businesses and reach players worldwide, reaffirming Coda’s commitment to the country’s digital and creative economy.
According to Niko Partners, Indonesia’s gaming industry recorded revenues exceeding US$1.1 billion in 2025 and is projected to surge to US$1.5 billion by 2030. As the market grows, player purchasing behaviour is shifting, with approximately 38 per cent of mobile gaming revenue in Southeast Asia now coming from out-of-app payment methods, up from just 21 per cent two years ago. Consumer habits are also changing, with digital wallets now used by 55 per cent of mobile gamers for transactions, while nearly a quarter utilise direct carrier billing. These trends highlight the critical need for adaptive local payment and commerce solutions to help publishers reach more players and optimise new revenue streams.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, described the collaboration as a tangible reflection of the government’s seriousness in supporting the national gaming industry and a reaffirmation of the joint commitment between the public and private sectors to build a globally competitive gaming ecosystem. She emphasised that the agreement is not merely a document, but a formal step demonstrating the commitment of both the government and industry players like Coda. Umar added that through strengthening the ecosystem, Indonesia aims to prove it can not only win world championships as players but also dominate the global market as great creators.
Moving forward, Coda and EKRAF will continue to explore further programmes to support the sustainable growth of Indonesia’s digital creative industry. Founded in Indonesia and headquartered in Singapore, Coda has grown into a global digital commerce platform operating in over 80 markets and supporting more than 400 payment methods. Through innovative solutions including Coda Webstore, Codapay, and consumer platforms like Codashop and Coda Distribution, the company bridges global publishers and brands with hundreds of millions of consumers worldwide.
