Cobra campaigns for PDI of Struggle

BANDUNG (JP): Supporters of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) in Bandung and elsewhere in the country are notorious for their fanaticism.

On the first day of street rallies here on Wednesday, they appeared frightening. Many painted their faces red -- the party's color -- and wore bull masks while riding motorcycles without mufflers.

But Wednesday's best attraction was a campaigner on a motorcycle with a cobra around his neck while he roared around the city.

Obviously, the deadly snake enjoyed the festivities. With its long neck sticking outward, it looked like it was dancing and swaying all the way. (43)
