A number of residents, along with women’s and environmental activists, wore clothing made from natural fibres and dyes while participating in the parade at the Festival of Coastal Women: Nurturing (Mother) Earth and Sea in the flood-affected village of Timbulsloko, Sayung Subdistrict, Demak, Central Java, on Saturday (18/4/2026).

The event, a collaboration between Demak’s coastal fisherwomen and civil society networks, campaigned for environmental preservation, the development of community gardens as alternative food strategies, and the enhancement of women’s capacities for a just and sustainable coastal future amid the climate crisis.
