Coalition: Houthi Missiles and Drones Target Three Cities in Saudi Arabia
Riyadh (ANTARA) - The Houthi group launched ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks targeting cities in Saudi Arabia, namely Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Jazan, on Wednesday (9/9).
This statement was issued by the Saudi-led coalition which supports the internationally recognised government of Yemen.
In a statement on the social media platform X, the coalition spokesperson, Turki Al-Maliki, stated that the Houthim group continues to launch attacks against Saudi national assets and infrastructure.
He described these actions as reflecting the group’s extremist approach to escalation and the targeting of civilians in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Maliki stated that the coalition’s Joint Forces Command will respond to protect the sovereignty of the Kingdom, national assets, civilians, and civilian objects.
These attacks occur amidst a sharp escalation between the Houthi group and Saudi Arabia. Earlier on the same Wednesday, the Houthi group claimed that dozens of “Saudi Arabian airstrikes” had hit territories under their control within the previous 12 hours.
This cycle of retaliatory attacks coincides with a sharp escalation in the Yemen region, where government forces and Houthi groups are engaged in battles across several fronts, with the most intense fighting occurring in the western part of the country.
This escalation risks ending the period of relative calm that has existed for several years on Yemen’s main frontlines following the UN-mediated ceasefire that came into effect in April 2022.
