The Chairman of the Indonesian Mining Experts Association (Perhapi), Sudirman Widhy Hartono, has assessed that the power outages occurring in several regions were not caused by problems with coal stocks or supply for power plants. According to Sudirman, the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) and the assignments given by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to mining companies have guaranteed the availability of coal supply for PT PLN (Persero).

“According to the reports we have received, there should be no problem with coal stocks,” Sudirman said when contacted by Republika in Jakarta on Friday (12/6/2026).

Sudirman stated that the DMO supply obligation and the assignments given by the Ministry of ESDM to coal mining companies should have already guaranteed the availability of supply for PLN. He conveyed that Perhapi has also conducted checks with several coal mining companies.

“We have also checked this with several coal mining companies who stated that coal supply from their mine sites is still ongoing to fulfil the DMO obligation,” Sudirman said.

Given these conditions, Sudirman assessed that the cause of the power outages likely stems from other factors beyond the availability of power plant fuel.

“So the likely cause of these power outages is not from coal stock or supply problems, but rather due to other issues that must be further explained by PLN,” Sudirman said.
