Coal Supply Issues for Power Plants Resolved, Says Minister Bahlil
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has confirmed that supply issues for medium-rank coal required by steam power plants (PLTU) have been fully resolved. He made the statement after inaugurating a Mini LNG Plant owned by PT Sumber Aneka Gas in Tuban, East Java. “Now, all the coal is on progress, so there are no more problems,” Bahlil said on Friday, 26 June 2026. The remarks addressed previous difficulties with medium-calorie coal, specifically the 5,200 kcal per kg GAR specification needed by PLN power plants. The disruption had caused electricity service interruptions in several areas. Bahlil previously stated that a special team had been formed to oversee coal procurement for PT PLN (Persero) to prevent recurring supply issues that could threaten national energy security. He noted that similar coal supply problems occurred in 2022, necessitating stricter supervision. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo confirmed that the supply of primary energy coal matching the required specifications for the power plants is now running smoothly. He added that efforts to repair the electricity system in Java are progressing and conditions are gradually improving. Darmawan said PLN will improve coal supply chain management and strengthen power generation to maintain and enhance the electricity system in Java.
