Coal Reference Price for April Period I at 99.87 US Dollars per Tonne

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The coal reference price (HBA) for the first period of April 2026 has fallen to 99.87 US dollars per tonne, down from 103.01 US dollars per tonne in the second period of March 2026. Quoting the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decision Number 135.K/MB.01/MEM.B/2026 accessed from Jakarta on Wednesday, the commodity’s price has declined from 103.01 US dollars per tonne in the second period of March to 99.87 US dollars per tonne in the first period of April 2026. This data is contained in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources’ decision, which divides the HBA into four categories based on the coal’s calorific value. The HBA values, HBA I, HBA II, and HBA III for the First Period of November 2025, which apply from 1 April to 14 April 2026, are as follows: HBA I (5,300 GAR): 72.28 US dollars per tonne (up compared to the HBA for the second period of March 2026 at 71.55 US dollars); HBA II (4,100 GAR): 49.99 US dollars per tonne (down compared to the HBA for the second period of January 2026 at 48.32 US dollars); HBA III (3,400 GAR): 35.23 US dollars per tonne (up compared to the HBA for the second period of January 2026 at 34.25 US dollars). This reduction is based on the imbalance between supply and demand for coal in the international market, particularly throughout 2025. However, the outbreak of war between the US-Israel and Iran caused coal prices to skyrocket from below 120 US dollars per tonne to exceeding 130 US dollars per tonne within approximately one week at the beginning of March 2026. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has opened the possibility of implementing measured relaxations regarding the determination of coal production quotas.
