Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has not yet realised the collection of export duties on coal to date. Purbaya explained that the policy could not yet be implemented because of one remaining issue: there are still those protesting against his decision.

“There are still those protesting, that’s all. We’ll sort it out later,” said Purbaya at his office in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2025.

However, his decision to impose an export duty on coal had already received approval from Commission XI of the House of Representatives since the end of 2025.

The parliamentary support came alongside an agreement to impose export duties on gold. The export duty on gold has already been implemented through the issuance of Finance Ministry Regulation (PMK) Number 80 of 2025.

The PMK 80/2025 was signed on 17 November 2025 and came into force on 23 December 2025, which was 14 days after being announced on 9 December 2025.
