Coal Distribution Strengthens as KAI Logistik Transport Volume Reaches 936,244 Tonnes

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Coal transportation performance by PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik) showed improvement in the second quarter of 2026. The company recorded the highest coal handling volume of the year in April 2026, as energy commodity distribution via rail strengthened. Company data shows that coal handling volume via KALOG Pro reached 936,244 tonnes in April 2026, a more than 11% increase from March 2026’s 847,000 tonnes. The volume increase indicates heightened coal distribution activity, a strategic national energy commodity. KAI Logistik Managing Director Yuskal Setiawan said the April volume increase signals a strengthening of coal business activity in the second quarter of 2026. He added that the achievement reflects growing customer confidence in rail as a logistics distribution mode. The positive April 2026 performance marks the start of increased coal distribution activity in the second quarter. Coal remains a key commodity handled by KAI Logistik via KALOG Pro services. The company believes increased energy demand contributed to the growth in transport volume during the period. Alongside demand factors, the volume increase was supported by the company’s efforts to strengthen operational capacity, including infrastructure optimisation for loading, unloading, and energy commodity distribution. One step taken by KAI Logistik to boost service capacity was the operation of Container Yard (CY) 2 Merapi since March 2026. The facility is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen coal transportation services and improve logistics distribution efficiency in its operational area. The company projects CY 2 Merapi will handle approximately 730 train units annually.
