Coal and Nickel Become More Promising, Mining Contractor Needs Projected to Surge
Prospects in the mining industry are assessed to drive the demand for mining contractor services. An increase in demand is evident for coal and nickel commodities.
The 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan document projects national electricity demand to grow by 5.3% per year. This increase maintains stable coal consumption as a mainstay for power generation.
The role of coal remains dominant in the energy mix. The trend towards new renewable energy continues to rise, but coal still serves as the primary source of electricity.
The nickel commodity shows a direction of long-term growth. Indonesia controls 67% of global nickel production. This share is projected to rise to 74% by 2035.
This situation increases the need for mining contractor services. Mining companies require partners to maintain efficiency and productivity.
“In the mining industry, what is most determining is not just the resource, but the consistency of execution in the field,” said Gahari Christine in a press statement on Monday (4/5/2026).
“Therefore, the role of contractors becomes increasingly important in maintaining productivity and operational efficiency,” he explained.
Gahari assesses that the industry prospects remain strong. Global nickel production is estimated to reach 5 million metric tonnes by 2035. The average annual growth is projected at around 8%.
Indonesia also leads in nickel downstream processing. The global processing share reaches 45%. This condition drives the need for mining contractor partners.
PT Andalan Artha Primanusa is strengthening its business position. The company focuses on services from exploration to reclamation.
The contract portfolio continues to grow. Cooperation is ongoing with PT Satria Bahana Sarana in the area of PT Bukit Asam Tbk.
The company added new contracts in 2026. The projects include PT Daya Bumindo Karunia, PT Intan Bumi Persada, and PT Arkara Prathama Energi.
Expansion is also being carried out into the nickel sector since January 2026. The company secured a contract with PT Position in North Maluku.
The main focus remains on operational consistency. The company emphasises the reliability of heavy equipment as the foundation of performance.
Growth in coal and nickel is estimated to continue. Mining operational needs will increase along with this trend.
