Coach's sniping humbles shooter

JAKARTA (JP): Finishing second was bad enough for top-ranked marksman Panichpatikum Jakkrit. But the Thai then had to suffer the second humiliation of a public dressing-down.

He had already won gold in the team free pistol event when he stepped up to the shooting line in the individual competition. In an agonizingly close contest, Panichpatikum lost by just 0.1 point to Carolino Gonzales of the Philippines.

The worst was yet to come. Panichpatikum's coach could not contain his anger, ripping into the shooter in full view of assembled reporters and athletes.

Neither man would comment, but Panichpatikum's bowed head and ashen face spoke volumes. (ste)
