Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head coach of the Indonesian national sport climbing team, Galar Pandu Asmoro, hopes the national training camp programme will continue after the 2026 Asian Games so that athlete preparation and achievement remain continuous.

According to him, the sustainability of the national training camp is necessary to improve athletes’ abilities, particularly in the lead discipline, which still requires development through a consistent and planned training programme.

“We hope the national training camp programme will be sustainable, because going forward we will be faced with qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the United States,” said Galar in Jakarta on Thursday.

He explained that so far the sport climbing national training camp programme is still focused on facing the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan from 19 September to 4 October.

According to him, the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports over the past year has helped meet the needs of the national training camp based in Bekasi City, West Java, especially in enabling athletes to participate in a number of world championships.

This support is considered to have had a positive impact on athlete readiness because they have had the opportunity to compete in various international events and measure their performance development before facing the 2026 Asian Games.

This is because adequate training facilities are an important requirement for improving the quality of athlete preparation, both for the speed, lead and boulder disciplines.

He added that the continuity of the national training camp is also important in maintaining the momentum of achievement that has been built through various international championships, and increasing the chances of qualifying athletes for the 2028 Olympics.

The Indonesian national sport climbing team is targeting at least two gold medals from the 2026 Asian Games.

“Our target is two, namely one each from the speed and lead disciplines,” said Manager of the Indonesian National Sport Climbing Team Aries Susanti Rahayu, at the sport climbing national training camp, Bekasi City, West Java, Monday (27/7).
