In the era of electric vehicle dominance, CNG-fuelled taxis remain a flagship service for Bluebird taxis. Adrianto Djokosoetono, President Director of PT Blue Bird Tbk, stated that Bluebird is still operating CNG-fuelled taxis as part of the company’s energy diversification strategy. “This approach is implemented to ensure operational flexibility while supporting the transition to lower-emission mobility,” he said when approached by Kompas.com on Sunday (3/5/2026). Currently, Bluebird operates a CNG fleet in four major cities: Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Batam. Overall, the number of CNG vehicles operating in those areas reaches around 3,000 units, managed according to operational needs and infrastructure availability in each city. In fact, the number of CNG taxis is still larger than Bluebird’s electric taxis. “At the same time, Bluebird is also gradually increasing the proportion of electric vehicles, in line with the readiness of the ecosystem and market needs,” Adrianto added. The gas tank is positioned behind the passenger seats or in the taxi’s boot. Although it slightly reduces boot space, passengers’ luggage can still be accommodated.
