Saturday, Jan. 31
The Future DJ agency will be coming back to The Gate with 2
rooms of dancefloor mayhem. The main room will have straight-
ahead thumping house from DJ Downey and DJ brothers Anton and
Hogi, while the lounge area will hear more eclectic sampling from
DJs Alan and Wiz.
DJ Anton, who began DJing about 15 years ago in the San
Francisco Bay area, was showcased recently in an one-hour TV7
special that took an in-depth look at the Jakarta clubbing and DJ
scene.
The Manna House (Taman Ria, Senayan) will see the return of
New York-based DJ/producer Sean "Cavo" Dinsmore, who is
associated with the electronica/Eurobeat "Dum Dum Project" as
well as with US ska-band "The Toasters" and a reggae-hip/hop
group, "Unity 2". Things will probably start around 11 p.m.
Right next door, Embassy will host their once-a-month Republik
Night which invites a well-known local DJ to spin up a little bit
of sonic magic. This Saturday it's a Jakarta Undercover Party
with DJ Rim of Groove Recordings, one of the founding fathers of
the underground house music scene in Jakarta. He also compiled
the Dance Mix 2000 remix-CD for EMI Records.
Sunday, Feb. 1
The Gate just kicked off their S.O.S. (Sound on Sunday)
program that will see progressive music served up from 6 a.m.
till 5 p.m. each Sunday, by resident DJs Ali, Boneh and Tablaa --
along with breakfast and lunch.
It'll be a laid-back informal affair with the opportunity for
other DJs to drop in for a quick guest spin. There's a chill-out
room next door. -- Joseph Mangga
