Clothing Imports Surge 13% in January 2026 Ahead of Ramadan and Eid
Jakarta – Indonesia’s Statistics Bureau (BPS) has recorded a notable increase in imports of several commodities associated with Ramadan and Eid celebrations. The most significant rise was seen in clothing and accessories imports.
Ateng Hartono, Deputy Head of BPS Distribution and Services Statistics Division, explained that the surge in imports occurred in January 2026, one month before Ramadan commenced.
Woven clothing and accessories (classified as HS61) reached US$11.5 million in January 2026, representing a 13.33% increase year-on-year. “The development of finished clothing imports in January 2026, specifically woven clothing and accessories classified as HS61, reached US$11.5 million or increased 13.33% year-on-year,” Ateng stated during a press conference on Monday, 2 March 2026.
However, non-woven clothing and accessories imports (classified as HS62) totalled US$10.7 million, recording a 13.11% decline year-on-year in January 2026. “Non-woven clothing and accessories classified as HS62 reached a value of US$10.7 million or fell 13.11% year-on-year, comparing January 2026 with January 2025,” Ateng added.
