Closing Loopholes: Corruption and Money Laundering Investigations Must Be Followed by System Reform
Jakarta, VIVA – Political communication and public policy observer Prof. Nyarwi Ahmad has expressed full support for the steps taken by the Indonesian National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor) in thoroughly investigating cases of alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU).
According to him, the firm action taken by Kortas Tipikor Polri in exposing corrupt practices, tracing the flow of funds, and revealing the parties involved deserves support and appreciation.
“The efforts of Kortas Tipikor Polri to thoroughly investigate corruption and money laundering cases must be fully supported. Firm law enforcement is essential to maintaining public trust,” said Prof. Nyarwi in his statement on Friday, 10 July 2026.
Nevertheless, he also emphasised the need for comprehensive systemic reform in order to close the loopholes that allow corruption to occur in the future.
“However, action against perpetrators must also be accompanied by improvements to the systems and culture that open the space for corruption to occur,” he said.
In his view, without systemic reform, corrupt practices will continue to recur even if the perpetrators have been dealt with.
“The firmness of Kortas Tipikor Polri must become a momentum for improving the system so that corrupt practices do not keep repeating themselves,” said Prof. Nyarwi.
He added that professional, transparent and impartial law enforcement is crucial to strengthening public confidence.
“At the same time, it safeguards the optimism of the younger generation towards Indonesia’s future,” he said.
