Closed-Door Session Held to Determine the Date of Eid al-Adha 1447 H
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Religious Affairs held an isbat session to determine 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri and Eid al-Adha 1447 H in a closed setting at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Sunday (17/5/2026) evening.
A number of participants from elements of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Islamic community organisations, and the hilal observation team were seen entering the room at 18:00 WIB to begin the isbat session.
“The isbat session serves as a joint forum to combine the results of hisab (astronomical calculations) and rukyatulhilal (new moon sighting) in order to determine the beginning of Zulhijah 1447 H accurately and acceptably for all Muslims in Indonesia,” said Director of Islamic Affairs and Sharia Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Arsad Hidayat, Sunday.
Based on the results of the hisab presented during the isbat session, all regions of Indonesia have met the MABIMS hilal visibility criteria, both in terms of hilal height and elongation, Sunday (17/5/2026).
“On this Hijri day, the height throughout Indonesia ranges from 3.29 to 6.95 and the elongation ranges from 8.91 to 10.60 degrees. Throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, the position of the hilal has met the MABIMS criteria or hilal visibility,” said the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Hisab Rukyat Team, Cecep Nurwendaya, Sunday.
The hilal is considered to meet the MABIMS criteria if the hilal height is at least 3 degrees and the elongation reaches 6.4 degrees.
Cecep emphasised that all regions of Indonesia have met the hilal visibility requirements based on mapping conducted by the hisab team.
“All regions of Indonesia appear green in colour,” he said.
He said that the elongation in Indonesian territory also far exceeds the minimum limit set.
According to him, all regions of Indonesia have met the criteria for the beginning of the Kamariah month.
“All regions of Indonesia, with white and green colours, already meet the MABIMS criteria for the beginning of the Kamariah month,” he said.
However, the determination of the beginning of Zulhijah and Eid al-Adha will be decided in the isbat session and announced afterwards in a press conference.
