Clongop Road Hit by Landslide Again This Morning, Traffic on Alternating System
A landslide occurred again on the New Clongop Road in Gedangsari Sub-District, Gunungkidul, early on Thursday (27/3). The landslide material covered approximately 80 percent of the road surface, and an alternating traffic system has been enforced.
The Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of the Gunungkidul BPBD, Edy Winarta, stated that the landslide happened around 03:30 WIB. It was triggered by rain that fell on the area the previous night.
“The landslide occurred early in the morning around 03:30 WIB, caused by last night’s rain,” said Edy when contacted by reporters today.
The landslide material, consisting of rocks and soil, covered most of the road surface. This condition has disrupted traffic flow in the affected area.
“The material covers approximately 80 percent of the road surface,” he said.
For the time being, large vehicles can only pass alternately or on a stop-go basis. Meanwhile, motorcycles can still pass with caution.
“Large vehicles on alternating system, motorcycles can still pass,” he explained.
The BPBD recommends emergency handling by manually moving the landslide material so that part of the road can be quickly functionalised. Further handling will be carried out by the relevant agencies.
“Emergency handling with manual cleaning so that half of the road can be opened, followed by handling from the relevant agencies,” said Edy.
Currently, the Gunungkidul BPBD is still coordinating with the Gedangsari Sub-District Government for further handling steps. Coordination is being carried out with the sub-district head, the police sector chief, and the local military district commander.
“This morning is still in the communication and coordination stage with Gedangsari Sub-District,” he concluded.
