Clogged drains in rainy season
Clogged drains in rainy season
From Warta Kota
The rainy season has set in but a number of drains, sewers and
rivers in Bekasi, West Java, remain clogged with mud, garbage and
water hyacinth, and there has been no apparent clearing and
dredging of the channels.
When heavy rain falls, it is feared the channels will overflow
and rainwater will inundate surrounding roads. Last year, the
river in Bekasi's Kayuringin Jaya area almost overflowed, with
the water level equaling the road level.
Numerous gutters draining into this river are also in poor
condition, with dozens of illegal kiosks and shops built along
the channels, while the construction of the drainage system has
cost a lot of money.
Meanwhile, mud has clogged the drains in the Bumi Bekasi Baru
housing complex, Rawalumbu, without any attempt to clean the
channels, while the area is one of Bekasi's most flood-prone
districts.
I wish to appeal to the mayor of Bekasi for proper attention
to these matters and speedy action.
