Clinton's Idul Fitri message
WASHINGTON (AP): President Bill Clinton said in his Idul Fitri message that he hoped the United States and Iran would soon be able to enjoy "good relations" once again.
"To the people of Iran, I would like to say that the United States regrets the estrangement of our two nations," Clinton said in a message to congratulate Moslems in the United States and all over the world.
Clinton hoped for more exchanges between the people of the United States and Iran, saying that "the day will soon come when we can enjoy once again good relations with Iran."
Meanwhile First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton met with Moslem Americans at the White House complex on Thursday to celebrate Idul Fitri.
"Eid Mubarak and welcome to the White House," said Mrs. Clinton, using a traditional Moslem greeting. She spoke to about 50 Moslem men, women and children gathered in the Indian Treaty Room, an ornate reception hall in the Old Executive Office Building that sits next to the White House.
