Climax of Eid al-Fitr Celebrations in Jakarta: 1,000 Drums Resound at Bundaran HI
As many as 1,000 bedug drums enlivened the Bundaran HI area in Central Jakarta during the Jakarta Kolosal Bedug event on the eve of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. This activity served as one of the peaks of Eid al-Fitr celebrations organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the event was not merely entertainment but also reflected the strong spirit of togetherness among Jakarta residents.
“Through this activity, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government aims to provide a space for the community to celebrate the echoes of takbir in a safe and comfortable manner,” said Pramono in his speech at Bundaran HI, Central Jakarta, on Friday (20/3/2026).
He explained that the 1,000 bedug drums came from 261 kelurahan in Jakarta, as well as representatives from several other regions such as Banten and West Sumatra. In addition to the kolosal bedug, the event was enlivened by a torch parade involving around 5,000 participants and a parade of decorated vehicles.
Not only that, a ‘Jakarta Rhythm of the Fountain’ themed fountain show also became an attraction for residents who crowded the Bundaran HI area to celebrate the takbiran night with their families.
According to Pramono, Bundaran HI was deliberately presented as a social interaction space for the community. Residents could walk with their families, enjoy entertainment, and feel the warm atmosphere of togetherness on the night of victory.
Furthermore, he assessed that the activity was able to strengthen social harmony amid the diversity of Jakarta’s society. Even, this year’s takbiran night momentum was considered even more special because it coincided with the commemoration of Nyepi Day.
“This serves as a reminder that Jakarta is a home for diversity, a place where various traditions and beliefs coexist in an atmosphere of mutual respect,” he said.
Pramono also appreciated the community for maintaining a conducive atmosphere in Jakarta during the Ramadan month. He invited residents to continue maintaining order and city cleanliness while celebrating Eid al-Fitr.
“Take care of Jakarta, remain orderly, safe, and clean so that this city remains comfortable for everyone,” he concluded.
