Jakarta — Meeting certification requirements, improving the quality of fishery products, and ensuring sustainability have been identified by Janti Djuari, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Pole and Line and Handline Fishery Indonesia (AP2HI), as key challenges facing Indonesian tuna products in enhancing competitiveness in global markets.

Currently, efforts are required to provide cooling systems and ice at fishing vessels, which are crucial for maintaining fish freshness. AP2HI is also engaging investors in establishing ice factories equipped with solar power sources.

Business operators are expecting government support in providing affordable fuel for fishermen amid rising global energy prices. Notably, climate change is affecting ocean water temperatures and fish movement patterns, as well as fishing times and the range of fishing areas.

Therefore, AP2HI is promoting the transformation of fishing technology to address various oceanographic challenges.

The discussion between Crysania Suhartanto and Janti Djuari was aired on Squawk Box CNBC Indonesia on Monday, 18 May 2026.
