Cliff Near Upper Cisokan Hydropower Project Collapses, PLN Issues Statement
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Senior Manager for Permits, Land, and Communications at PLN UIP Central Java Ferdyan Hijrah Kusuma has assured that no work activities were underway at the site when the landslide affected the construction of the Upper Cisokan Hydropower Plant (PLTA) in Cimarel Village, Sukaresmi Village, Rongga Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency (KBB).
Previously, detikjabar reported that the landslide impacting the Upper Cisokan PLTA construction project in Rongga, West Bandung Regency, occurred on Friday (1/5/2026) due to heavy rain.
“High rainfall intensity is suspected to have triggered the landslide on one side of the planned outlet cliff,” Ferdyan stated on Saturday (2/5/2026).
“At present, we can confirm that no work activities were taking place at the location during the landslide and there were no fatalities,” he added.
He explained that as a follow-up measure, the affected area and potential landslide points have been sterilised.
“All work activities have been temporarily halted. We also urge all workers to heighten their vigilance against potential landslides in the surrounding area,” he said.
“Subsequently, the site conditions are currently under review by the PLN team to determine the appropriate handling steps, while still prioritising safety aspects,” stated Ferdyan Hijrah Kusuma.
Previously, Rongga Subdistrict Head Badrul Muin said the landslide occurred after heavy rain lashed the area for several hours. The landslide material slid from a hill in Cimarel Village, Sukaresmi Village, Rongga Subdistrict.
“The landslide point is from Bukit Pasir Datar; based on information from the Upper Cisokan PLTA side, it is above the tunnel project area CTY or TTO (Tailrace Tunnel Outlet),” said Badrul Muin, quoted from detikjabar on Saturday (2/5/2026).
