Clerics should be introspective

I would like to underline the news contained in Republika of
Jan. 24 on Wimar Witoelar's statement made before journalists,
saying that President Abdurrahman Wahid was planning to sweep his
cabinet of New Order elements, because the current administration
is not clean from New Order elements. "We must clean it every
day", Wimar said laughingly. Only he knew whom he was laughing
at.

With this connection made, and considering the worsening
situation and conditions, as an ordinary Muslim I am appealing to
all Muslim leaders, particularly clerics and ulemas, to be
introspective and to be on the watch the current developments
with common sense in the wisdom of Islamic eyes, the Koran and
hadiths. Do not let your fanatical feelings about someone blind
your eye of heart concerning the truth and lay aside the divine
common sense.
