Clergy wary of Estrada 'dynasty'
MANILA (AFP): Philippine Roman Catholic bishops cautioned President Joseph Estrada on Tuesday against allowing his children or relatives to run for public office in a bid to create a "political dynasty".
"We urge him to do away with political dynasties," said Monsignor Hernando Coronel, spokesman for the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
Last week, Estrada's son, Joseph Victor Ejercito, 29, said he may run for a Congressional seat next year, stressing that he wants to represent young people.
Another son, Jose "Jinggoy" Ejercito, 37, is currently the mayor of suburban San Juan town and is believed to be aiming for a Senatorial seat next year.
