Clearing of BPJS Kesehatan Arrears Awaits President's Signature
Jakarta. BPJS Kesehatan is set to clear the arrears of National Health Insurance (JKN) contributions, but the move is still pending the signature of President Prabowo Subianto. BPJS Kesehatan President Director Prihati Pujowaskito stated that the total number of participants in arrears is 23 million, valued at Rp 14 trillion. The plan now solely awaits the President’s decision. “It has not been signed yet; let’s wait together. Hopefully, it will be signed soon,” he said at the DPR RI building in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/6/2026). Prihati explained that the arrears to be cleared involve participants who have defaulted on their contributions for a long period. Following the amnesty, the hope is that participants will be disciplined in paying their premiums. “But those who are able to pay contributions should continue as active participants and must not repeat the defaults,” he stated. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa had previously prepared a budget of Rp 20 trillion in the 2026 State Budget to clear the BPJS Kesehatan contribution arrears of underprivileged citizens. “For 2026, it is ready. The Rp 20 trillion is there; we have already budgeted for it,” Purbaya said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (22/10/2025). The Finance Minister recently confirmed that the incentive funds for the class-three BPJS amnesty, amounting to Rp 20 trillion, had already been transferred to BPJS and that the details of the Presidential Regulation were being finalised. “It has been approved; it is just the details of the Presidential Regulation that remain, if I am not mistaken,” he said in the Darmawangsa area of Jakarta on Thursday (12/2/2026). Purbaya added that the money had been sent to BPJS for execution. “But the money has already been transferred to BPJS, so they can execute it at any time. I have disbursed Rp 20 trillion, if I am not mistaken,” he said.
