Clear definition of pornography sought

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives has been urged to clearly define pornography, otherwise the bill on pornography currently being deliberated will restrict freedom of expression in the arts.

"The bill on pornography must not kill the creativity of professional artists," noted photographer Darwis Triadi told a meeting with the House's special committee deliberating the pornography bill here on Monday.

He said it was an artist's conscience that would determine whether his work would lead to pornography or not.

Titi Said, head of the Film Censorship Institute (LSF), agreed with Darwis, saying a clear definition would avoid differing interpretations.

The pornography bill restricts the use and display of any obscene materials, except for educational and medicinal purposes. -- Antara
